Pixelveil creates password-protected PNG carriers for images. Choose a photo, enter a password, and save or share the resulting carrier. To restore the image, open that carrier in Pixelveil and enter the same password.
For iPhone and iPad · Requires iOS or iPadOS 18 or later
Choose an image from Photos or capture one with the camera.
Enter the password twice so a typing mismatch is caught before encryption.
Pixelveil creates an authenticated encrypted container and stores it in a lossless PNG carrier.
Save the carrier to Files or send a compatibility package when a messaging service handles documents more reliably than images.
Open Decrypt, select the unchanged PNG or package, and enter the exact password to restore the image.
Pixelveil validates carrier and package structure before requesting a password. Wrong passwords, changed encrypted content, and unsupported inputs are rejected without releasing an image.
AES-256-GCM authenticates the encrypted content and format information.
PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 derives a key using a fresh random salt for every encryption.
A fresh random nonce prevents two encryptions from producing the same container simply because the image and password match.
Image content and passwords are processed locally on the device and are not uploaded to a Leiter Consulting server.
Pixelveil does not store a recovery password or recovery key.
No software can promise absolute security. Pixelveil is designed to detect incorrect passwords and changes to its protected content while keeping the workflow understandable and testable.
The carrier's encoded pixels contain the protected data. The filename may be changed, but the PNG content must remain unchanged.
Recommended sharing methods:
Pixelveil's Share Compatibility Package option for messaging services.
Save to Files, iCloud Drive, or another document provider.
AirDrop or another direct file transfer.
An email attachment or cloud-storage file link.
A messaging service's file, document, or attachment mode.
Avoid:
Cropping, resizing, filtering, markup, or image optimization.
Screenshots or copied-image workflows.
Conversion to JPEG or HEIC.
Social-media or messaging photo modes that recompress images.
Extracting or rebuilding a Pixelveil compatibility package.
Send the password separately, using a different channel when practical. Keep the original image and carrier until a complete restore has been tested.
Pixelveil is a free download with no advertising and no subscription. Decryption remains available without a purchase. Free users can create up to 10 encrypted carriers.
Pixelveil does not collect image content, passwords, encrypted carriers, location, contacts, device identifiers, or usage analytics. It contains no advertising or tracking SDKs. Files leave Pixelveil only when you choose to save or share them.
